Kindle Vs Nook Price Drops

The eReaders just got cheaper

The benefit of competition is low prices. No better example of it than the great eReader war, Kindle vs Nook. With the introduction of the iPad from Apple, the market was getting even more competitive so the prices had to drop. And there is little to no surprise then that both companies announced big cuts in the prices of their models, solidifying their claims in a different market than that of the iPad.

On Monday, June 21 both Amazon and Barnes and Noble dropped their prices. The Amazon 3G Kindle 2 is now priced at $189 while the Barnes and Noble 3G Nook is priced at $199, a big cut from their previous $260 price tags. These price drops are a significant 20% and make me wonder if new models are on the way.

However, the Nook made things even more interesting by offering a WiFi only Nook that is priced at the very low $149 price point. The WiFi only version lacks the ability to get books from any location that the 3Gs have to offer, but the ability to save a chunk of change and purchase four or five books with the $40 is a pretty good start too. It's hard to identify if that lost feature will be missed in this lower model.

It's an interesting market as we now have so many options. The Kindle DX is still priced at $489, a silly price considering the iPad. The iPad is available at $500 with a full set of tablet pc features. And for the more price-oriented shoppers, we now have these very low priced Kindles and Nooks available.

The market is constantly changing, so keep checking back for more information! And please let us know, do these drops in price alter your view on the Kindle vs Nook debate?
